This year’s Mid-autumn Festival falls on September 17. An “ancient style celebration” activity was held in the Yingui Community in Xiaying Sub-district of Yinzhou District, attracting a number of international students from Ningbo University to come and immerse themselves with residents in traditional Chinese culture by making mooncakes, playing chuiwan game, and playing Guzheng.
“This is my first time wearing the Hanfu clothes, and it’s a great experience. I also participated in many games. The people here are very friendly,” said Anshid from India happily. He has been living in Ningbo for six years and is now a graduate student majoring in Clinical Medicine at the School of International Exchange, Ningbo University. This brand new experience has added to his love for the city of Ningbo.
Yasser, an international student from Morocco, spoke highly the event. “I didn’t know about chuiwan before, but today I tried it for the first time and it was amazing, somewhat like golf,” he said in Chinese.
The melodious and graceful guzheng music caught everyone’s attention. At the invitation of Huang Shiwen, the little player, they carefully sat in front of the guzheng and tried to play this ancient Chinese instrument. “It’s amazing!” said Asim, also an Indian, who was deeply impressed by the charm of the guzheng and couldn’t understand how a few strings could produce such beautiful and melodious music.
As a co-building unit of Ningbo University, Yingui Community has always been committed to promoting cultural diversity and inclusiveness in the community. This activity brings together young people from different countries to learn and experience traditional Chinese culture together, injecting vitality into cultural exchange in the community.
